LPG

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a generic term for a mixture of Propane and Butane gas. When the gas is stored under moderate pressure, it becomes a liquid in a much smaller volume, making LPG easy to transport.

The benefits of using LPG

  • LPG has lower Greenhouse Gas (GHGs) emissions than petrol, diesel, or electricity, on an energy-equivalent basis, making it cleaner and more environmentally friendly.

  • LPG is used as a gas but can easily be compressed into liquid form. Thus, a lot of energy can be stored in a small, easy to handle container.

  • BOC has a reliable supply of LPG and an established network of supply and distribution facilities. The use of LPG is not limited by supply pipelines or electricity grids. It can be taken to its required location anywhere.

  • LPG like Natural Gas is very responsive, particularly in cooking where instant heat and fingertip control are so important.

  • With escalating electricity costs it is worthwhile investigating all the uses for LPG including hot water heating.

  • In the commercial industrial sectors, it can be a competitive alternative to electricity.

 

Applications

Domestic - In a typical home, the common uses of LPG are for cooking, heating and hot water systems. The most common and popular LPG product for domestic applications is the Swap N Go LPG cylinder.

Commercial - The major uses for LPG in the commercial market (offices, shops, restaurants, hotels, etc.) are much the same as domestic uses but mostly on a larger scale. The equipment is generally more robust, designed for high load commercial use and often more expensive.

Industrial - Industrial applications include heating and drying. Metal melting and cutting, steam raising, powdercoating and ingredient drying are just a few of the processes that use LPG as a fuel source.

Forklift - If a heavy object needs to be loaded, moved or stacked, it will most likely be moved with a forklift. LPG is a cleaner, more efficient fuel for forklifts and is the dominant fuel in one to three tonne capacity internal combustion engine forklifts.

Automotive - For most businesses, the acquisition and maintenance of vehicles are two of their top expenses, so it is no wonder they are always looking for ways to reduce costs. When LPG is used as alternative fuel source, it results in hundreds, perhaps thousands of dollars saved per year depending on vehicle type, usage and distance travelled. Agricultural - In agriculture, LPG can be used for the heating of greenhouses with hydroponic systems. It is also used for CO2 enrichment of a greenhouse’s atmosphere to encourage growth, to brood young chickens and pigs, and fuelling grain drying equipment.
