Hydrogen

Regardless of whether you want to use hydrogen as a zero-emissions source of fuel, a feedstock gas for industry or a source of heat and power for buildings, Linde offers technologies and expertise to support your project every step of the way.

Hydrogen as a cleaner fuel for the future

Climate change is already happening and is no longer a distant threat. As a result of the Paris Agreement, more and more countries, regions, cities and companies serving them are setting ambitious carbon neutrality targets and looking for solutions to help achieve these targets. Hydrogen will play a key role in the new energy system. Due to its versatility, hydrogen is proving to be a key enabler in the transition to low and zero carbon energy, helping to achieve climate objectives.

The road to green hydrogen

Although hydrogen is a colorless gas, it is classified as grey, blue, or green depending on its carbon intensity.
Grey and blue hydrogen are important stepping stones on the road to green hydrogen, as they help to develop the necessary frameworks and infrastructure while green hydrogen production reaches the required scale.
Green hydrogen is environmentally friendly and produces no carbon dioxide emissions.

We can produce hydrogen from various raw materials and natural resources. Using processes such as steam reforming, we produce grey hydrogen from natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or industrial gasoline, which is currently the most common and cheapest method of producing hydrogen. This process can be converted to blue hydrogen production by adding carbon capture and storage techniques. We use electrolysis technology to produce green hydrogen, using renewable energy as the raw material. An alternative production method is steam reforming of methane, using biomass as the raw material.
